1,797 Greensboro residents favor liberty

That's my final vote count: 1,797. It works out to approximately 2.38% of the vote total. I was hoping for more, but I suppose I shouldn't complain. I got over 500 more votes than the Libertarian that ran for the same office against the same incumbant in 2002. Libertarians continue to build support and awareness for the concept of individual rights every election. Only one place to go: up!

As a former card-carrying member of the LP, I wonder why current libertarian thinking people have not done the same as me and thrown in their lot with the Democrats. I used to be a Libertarian (capital-L) because I agreed with the Dems on social issues and Repubs on economic issues (altogether equalling personal freedom in all aspects). But over the last ten years, I've come to see that the Democrats have seen the error of their old anti-business tax and spend ways, and now favor balanced budgets and thus smaller government than the Republicans do. And while Democrats may believe in higher levels of regulation than Republicans, it is generally because limits have to be placed on corporate power.

The Democrats have moved toward the center and co-opted the Libertarian middle ground.

Because the Democrats are not as good as the Libertarians at standing up for liberty. They may or may not be better than Republicans, but I refuse to settle for 2nd best to the Libertarians.
